We won't go so far as to say we approve of and advocate being an early bird, but for those who like their garage saling early, there are some things you can do for yourself to make the experience more pleasant. (Just be sure you're keeping others in mind, and that you're making their mornings more and not less pleasant as well!) Follow these early bird tips to make things easier on yourself next time you're up before the songbirds on a Saturday!
Set several alarms. If you're used to rising early, this may be a trick you already use, but it's a good one to keep in mind. You'll want to set different devices for the various times, so your brain doesn't start incorporating a familiar noise into your dreams. If you can, place the last (and preferably most obnoxious) alarm all the way across the room; that way, you're forced to get out of bed to turn it off, and then you might as well actually get up.
Wake up a few days before at the same time. If your body is used to rising at an early hour, it won't have any trouble doing so on the day you actually need it. Not sure what you'll do during those extra morning hours? Use them to wrap up a project you started long ago, or take up a new hobby (such as writing poetry, knitting, or scrapbooking -- something quiet that won't wake your family or the neighbors).
Have breakfast prepared and your outfit set out. Unless you're a huge morning person, you probably want to squeeze every precious second out of your sleeping time. If you already have your morning readied for you, pulled together the night before, you can sleep a little later and not have to wake up in a panic. Choose your garage saling outfit (something comfy that will keep you cool or warm) and lay it out, ready to pull on, and make a filling, nutritious breakfast food ahead of time.
Do something to really wake you up. The first act of your day doesn't have to be garage saling; some people find that doing the work they do all day first thing doesn't actually wake them up, and turns them into zombies a couple of hours later. Do something that stimulates your brain and body and stirs up your energy -- write, go for a run, watch some funny YouTube clips: whatever it is that gives you that morning kick, do it!
Then it's time to head out and start saling! Check out our garage sale listings at our home page, and plan your route for this weekend.
