Striking a Bargain with Donors

People shopping a charity garage sale aren't generally loathe to donate money, but there are often financial reasons that they can't give you much of a contribution to your cause, beyond what they spend on the items. They're generally willing to buy items for your charity because they get something in return. Sometimes, striking a bargain with donors -- giving them something they want, or offering them an easy and painless way to donate -- is the best way to raise the money you need to help out a local charity.

Convincing a donor to help out in a sale. One method of striking a bargain with your shoppers is to request that they submit something free for them -- such as an image of their pet, if you're supporting a shelter, or a story or poem written by their child, if you're helping a literacy cause -- and for each one submitted, you will donate a certain amount of money. Granted, either you'll need to be rich or you'll have to have some very generous backers, but this method can be good for raising awareness as well as support. You can use the images or works that people give you and create a collage for the central office or headquarters of the charity.

Talk to local businesses before you start your fundraising efforts, and see if you can't find someone who is willing to match the donated amount. You can bargain with your backer on whether or not you'll include the merchandise or just some sort of special fundraising effort, like the one mentioned above. Either way, you can advertise that the donated money will be matched, which may encourage people to give more since they know that they will have twice the impact.

Another way of striking a bargain is to give customers a deal for what they donate. For example, if they make a cash donation, they can get a certain percentage off of the price they would have paid for any merchandise they buy. You can have variable amounts -- a $50 donation gets a 50% off, whereas a $10 donation might only get a 10% donation off -- or you can just make a set amount for people who are willing to contribute beyond the items they buy.

Whether you're planning a straightforward garage sale for charity or something with intricate fundraising methods, you can always advertise for free on our site.

To attract more buyers or costumers in your fund raising, you should go around and spread the word. After that, you could use discounts as an incentive for them to donate money. You could even let your children be in the sale to have the sympathy of your costumers especially those who are kind hearted.

You could even have a showcase of the pictures of your benfeciaries. Like if your helping a kids foundation in Africa, you could have a collage or post each picture with a unique caption to entice your donors. Any donation should be welcomed because the amount is not that important but what matters is that you helped and gave money for a cause.

Great to have events like this. YOur getting an item you want at the same time you changing someone's life. Even in your own simple way, your doing your part and sharing your blessings with other people. If I get the chance to join these events, I would whole heartedly commit and donate money.

If you have some contacts, you would take advantage of that leverage to gain more publicity and raise more funds. You should target those who are in the average to high income families. Lastly, it would help if your event is located where there are a lot of people passing by like downtown to have better chances of raising more money.

From my experience, using discounts is definitely effective. I got hooked in buying more things because I could pack them together in a bunch with a smaller price. Even if one item is high priced but when I pair it with a cheap one, I would then have an affordable one.

It's better to price your product a bit higher than you would normally do. It's an advantage because you can still bargain and it would look like your a generous person and good person at that since your're willing to bargain with your costumers. They would much like at home when they're at your garage sale. It's also wise to think things through especially selling those things which have a special meaning or sentimental value. A good rule is never sell anything that does not belong to you. You should decide together with the owner of that belonging to avoid conflicts like you would return the costumer's money just to get back that item you already sold.

A good idea would be selling clothes with the beneficiary's picture printed eon the shirt. You will also need a catchy line to gain more costumers. You can speak up about it and how fulfilling it is to help other people with your extra money, which is only a small amount of your wealth. It's easier to donate if you know where your money is going and it'd be successful if it would go to children or foundations that help children. My sample slogan would be "Donate NOW and Change someone's future FOREVER" Smile is that catchy or what?

I donate money if I see that the beneficiary is really needy and poor. A good example would be a foundation helping African kids. I'm greatly affected by their situations because they don't even have a potable water source and some of them can hardly eat anything. I even heard the news that because of hunger, they would pick up mud and form them into a circle and let it dry under the sun and eat it afterwards. That is one of the worst things I have heard and it bothers me until now.

I can relate with what your feeling. I have a soft heart when it comes to children. I can't stand seeing them suffer and live a poor quality of life. Whenever I see poor people especially young ones, I go out of my ways and help them in anyway I can. I give them some money just to get by food and have a decent meal.

The most disturbing picture I saw that disturbed me was an image of a poor, skinny African kid who is just about to die and a vulture is lurking nearby waiting for his next meal who unfortunately, is the African kid. It changed my life a lot because I started to help and join organizations that send support to those poor countries. I realized that here I am, living my dream, wasting water, not even finishing my meal, and choosing very expensive clothes to wear. It struck me that I am wasting all the things that these people needed and that I needed to share my blessings.

A famous organization known to help poor and third world countries is UNICEF. They help fight poverty all over the world. You can affiliate yourself with them through your garage sales through the donations you receive from there. It will be much effective because you are giving the donations to the UNICEF directly and ensure that the raised money would reach the intended beneficiaries.

You should target educational institutions such as universities, colleges and schools Robert Carter.

It would be a good population to start with because we are taught even at a young age to share especially to those you need our help most. They much obliged to help not just our society but even those who are outside our country. When the students would go home, they would share it to their parents, neighbors and it will reach the office mates of their parents and so on. It will be a community, helping hand in hand to solve poverty in our own little ways.

Glad to learn I'm not the only remaining person who cares for others before myself.

I met this woman while I was taking a ride home in the bus. She had 3 children with a 4 day old infant and she was crying because she did not have money just to have a meal. I gave her a couple of dollars to afford a decent meal and feed her children. She needs to eat to produce milk for her newborn. I hope she finds the help she really deserves.

You need to be cautious Kenneth in using your kids because you can be charge for child labor exploitation. Even in movies, child actors need special permits that conforms to the rights of children not to be forced to act and be overworked. They are most vulnerable and need to be protected.

I need to improve my confidence and self esteem especially in conversing with people to persuade them in attending my garage sale. I need to convince them to shop for a cause to help other people who are needy.
